Phlebotomy is the process of drawing blood from patients and taking the blood specimens to the laboratory to prepare for testing. Phlebotomy technicians work in hospitals, physician offices, and other health facilities, and are essential members of the clinical laboratory team. The duties of a phlebotomy technician may include drawing blood, preparing specimens for storage or testing, assembling equipment, and verifying patients’ records. A phlebotomist may also conduct patient interviews and screen donors at a blood bank. This course meets for 96 hours of in-person instruction. 91自拍 may be eligible to complete an off-site externship of 120 hours, Monday to Friday 8am to 5pm.

This program will prepare you to take the Phlebotomy Technician Certification (CPT) exam offered by National Healthcareer Association (NHA), the Phlebotomy Technician Certification (PBT) exam offered by the ASCP Board of Certification, or the Registered Phlebotomy Technician (RPT) offered by American Medical Technology (AMT).

Course Objectives

  • Know the history of phlebotomy and the roles and responsibilities of phlebotomy technicians.
  • Demonstrate laboratory operations (e.g., safety, quality control), quality assurances, laboratory laws, ethics, and regulatory issues.
  • Understand the anatomy and physiology of the circulatory system, and anatomy of the hand, leg, & foot – including arteries and veins.
  • Practice universal precautions, safety protocols, infection control, and medical asepsis.
  • Demonstrate proper collection, processing, handling, documentation, and transportation of specimens.
  • Accurately perform venipunctures, skin punctures, syringe practice, heel punctures, protocols, and syringe draws.

Attendance Policy

The Phlebotomy Technician program requires 85% attendance to successfully complete. Attendance will be taken at each meeting.

Your tuition must be paid in full at least two weeks before the program ends to receive the exam voucher and Certificate of Completion.

No, Pell Grants and federal student aid cannot be used to pay for our continuing education programs. We strongly encourage students to complete their FAFSA, and apply for the Texas Public Educational Grant (TPEG).

The Texas Public Educational Grant (TPEG) is a state-funded program designed to assist Texas residents with financial need in covering the costs of higher education at public colleges and universities in Texas. 91自拍 must demonstrate financial need as determined by the FAFSA. If approved, TPEG will cover 50% of the tuition for eligible WCE programs.

Continuing Education Units (CEUs) are nationally recognized to record satisfactory completion of certain approved occupationally related programs. Generally one CEU is awarded for each 10 contact hours of instruction included in a specified continuing education program or activity. Successful completion is grade and attendance-based. Eighty percent attendance is required for most classes, but some require 100 percent attendance. Individuals who register for and successfully complete our courses are awarded CEUs.
